In the summer of 2004 the BIA committee from Toronto City Hall and the Church Wellesley BIA met on-site to discuss the mock-up of the granite base for the monument.
The enlargement of the figure was done in Montreal. This shows the armature and the beginning of the plaster over the wire coat.

After the figure was completed in clay, molds were made and wax was poured to produce a figure. The figure was cast in bronze. The casting had to be checked for defects and the figure needed to be refined so that it stood properly and was balanced.

An excavation was made five feet below the sidewalk level. A cement base was poured and made absolutely level.
The 14,000lb granite base was transported to Toronto from Quebec. It was placed upon the cement base.
The bronze figure is hoisted on to the granite base. The figure weights 970lbs and the bronze base weighs 345lbs.
