In 1810 Wood in his position as magistrate examined the genitals of several young men looking for scratch marks that had been reported by a woman who had been raped. Because his actions were said to be criminal by his superiors he was advised to leave York to escape jail or a fine. He returned after two years and continued in his many government positions and fought in the War of 1812 -1814. This relief sculpture is exactly the same as that on the monument on Church 7 Alexander Streets in Toronto.
